In August, 2006 I finally made half of a trip I had been threatening to make for several years. The first half was going to be Bar Harbor, and then continue on to Nova Scotia. Unfortunately, the timing only allowed for the first half of the trip, so NS is still at some point in the future. But the charm and beauty of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park more than made up for it.

The Thornhedge was a wonderful Bed and Breakfast spot. Conveniently located just a block from downtown, this was the first B&B ever opened in Bar Harbor! I loved the cocktail hour on the porch after a long day hiking in Acadia, the communal breakfasts with other travelers, and listening to the stories from the original owner (as she played us music on antique Edison scrolls!). Fun activities included taking a harbor tour on a 3-masted schooner, exploring Acadia via a horse-drawn carriage, watching the kitschy Lumberjack Show, and catching a surprisingly good drama at the local Playhouse.
